China's "fashion PR guru", co-founder of art fairs Art021 and JingArt in Shanghai and Beijing, answered for Doors the Proust Questionnaire (a parlor game popularized by French writer Marcel Proust, who believed that answering these questions reveal an individual’s true nature).

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

As simple as possible.

What is your greatest fear?

Death.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

I haven’t found out yet.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Not punctual.

Which living person do you most admire?

My mom.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I am more restrained than before. I used to spend four days at karaoke in a week.

What is your current state of mind?

Peaceful.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Humbleness.

On what occasion do you lie?

To achieve a wonderful and well-meaning result.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

Always fail in losing weight.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

There is nothing special to mention. 

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Do we have to distinguish between men and women?

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

When in art fairs, it would be “Welcome”, and in office it is “We have to speed up on the project”.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

The samoyed dog I used to have.

When and where were you happiest?

The moment when we finished the art fair every year.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Dance.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My next achievement.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?

Let it be.

Where would you most like to live?

Still Shanghai.

What is your most treasured possession?

Time.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Small cuts caused by shaving.

What is your favorite occupation?

It is not necessary to have a certain occupation, as long as you do the things you like.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I walk quickly?

What do you most value in your friends?

Sincerity.

Who are your favorite writers?

Hong Ying [Chinese contemporary author].

Who is your hero of fiction?

He is not a her of fiction but has become legendary: Kuan Kung [Chinese General from the Three Kingdoms period].

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

Yang Yuhuan [favorite concubine of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty whose tragic destiny inspired many Chinese poets and authors].

Who are your heroes in real life?

There were three people who had the greatest impact on my art career: Lorenz Helbling [the Swiss founder of pioneering Chinese contemporary art gallery ShanghArt], Chen Yifei [famous painter, filmmaker and businessman deceased in 2015] and Pearl Lam, and among all the artists, it is Zeng Fanzhi who influences me the most.

What are your favorite names?

Xiaobao ["Little Bao", Bao Yifeng's short name].

What is your greatest regret?

I could not buy more artworks of contemporary artists in the beginning of my career.

How would you like to die?

Peacefully and happily.

What is your motto?

Tomorrow will come again.
